Art Classes

Since 1989, art students at Pastimes for a Lifetime have developed their own unique painting and drawing style by learning fundamental skills as well as advanced concepts in a studio environment that encourages self-expression.

Taught by Linda Wehrli, her unique curriculum addresses and builds perceptions and technical skills while providing the science behind the art.

How to enroll in 3 easy steps.

book your art classes.

Format

  • Art classes are taught by Linda Wehrli at her beautiful Valley Glen studio.
  • Each student receives individual instruction in a small group setting.
  • Students work at their own pace, building their skills and developing their own style.
  • Ages 6 and above are welcome
  • 1– hour classes are held weekly, Tuesday through Saturday, year round.
  • Additional classes may be booked depending on availability.
  • Students reserve their day and time for the month or semester.

  • Classes are sold in monthly or semester packages.
     Semester packages receive a 10% discount.

CURRICULUM

How a Student Progresses through Pastimes’ Art Courses

Before the first day of art class, each student has a conversation Linda Wehrli, to assess the student’s art skill level, interests and goals.
To determine your curriculum, please refer to the chart below.

Skill and/or Experience of Student	Level of Course & Mediums to Enroll In
First time beginner or has not had art instruction in a while. Choose one or both mediums:	Basic Drawing Course A. Graphite B. Charcoal
Completed Basic Drawing Course or has comparable drawing skills. Choose one of the following levels & mediums per level:	Intermediate Level Drawing Course A. Intermediate level subject matter B. Intermediate level drawing tools & grounds	Pen & Ink Illustration A. Introductiong to Pen & Ink techniques B. Intermediate level subject matter	Basic Color Course A. Oil Pastel – and/or B. Colored Pencil
Completed Basic Color Course or has comparable knowledge of color mixing, but is first time beginning painter.	Beginner Painting Courses A. Watercolor Tins
Completed Beginning Painting Course or has comparable knowledge of color mixing and painting skills. Choose one of the following mediums:	Intermediate Painting Courses A. Watercolor Tubes B. Acrylics C. Oils

Art for Kids:

Students as young as 6 begin gaining a solid foundation in drawing techniques in their very first class. If the student is more experienced, they will be guided by Linda to choose the medium of choice to expand upon fundamental techniques, shading, color mixing, and more.

Art for Teens:

Linda Wehrli has and will assist any student in preparing their portfolio for college admission. Pastimes sponsors and enlists multiple local art shows and venue showcases to broaden the student’s commercial experience.

Art for Adults:

Adults new to drawing and painting, or those returning to art classes are welcome. At all levels, perceptions and technical skills are developed while learning to draw and paint. Topics are presented in an easy gradient, building the student’s confidence along the way. This solid foundation will provide you for a lifetime of enjoyment, inspiring you to achieve your goals in becoming a fine artist.

Homeschool Classes:

A Green Art Studio

Pastimes for a Lifetime is a completely eco-friendly art studio using environmentally safe paints and energy-efficient light bulbs.

  • Hourly classes are held Tuesday through Saturday, year round.
  • Classes are in 1-hour blocks, minimum.

Monthly Packages:

Monthly 1-hour Art Class Packages
Monthly Art Class Packages available for 4 to 5 one-hour classes per month (based on the number of weeks per month). Art classes are booked once per week. Additional classes may be purchased based on availability.

Monthly 2-hour Art Class Packages
Monthly Art Class Packages available for 4 to 5 two-hour classes per month (based on the number of weeks per month). Art classes are booked once per week. Additional classes may be purchased based on availability.

Semester Packages:

13 lessons within a 3-month block qualify for a 10% discount.
Semester Art Class Package $22/lesson for a total of $257.40 for 13 hours of art classes booked within a 3-month period.(“Semester Discount” valid over a consecutive 3-month time block.)

Pastimes for a Lifetime offers gift certificates valued at any of the fine art, calligraphy, and piano classes offered. Be it a $22 one-hour art workshop to $351.00 for 13-weeks of half an hour piano lessons, we will help you choose the right gift for the right person.
  • Certificates are beautifully created with the recipient’s name hand written
   in calligraphy.
  • Certificates won’t have an expiration date.
  • If lost/stolen, Pastimes will have the certificates numbered and registered by the
     purchaser (not the recipient) for easy reference.
